NANAIMO — Police hope the public can help advance their ongoing investigation into thefts from multiple south coast home improvement stores.

Nanaimo RCMP Res. Cst. Gary O’Brien stated since early last year a man is accused of several thefts and frauds at various Lowes Home Improvement locations in Nanaimo, Saanich and New Westminster.

“Police, working with Loss Prevention Officers in the various jurisdictions, have learned that the suspect allegedly buys several items then steals other items. He will then return to the business a short time later to refund the items he legitimately purchased,” Cst. O’Brien stated in a news release.

In total, O’Brien noted it’s believed the suspected has stolen upwards of $30,000 in goods from the scheme.

Based on surveillance video, O’Brien stated police have narrowed down the suspect pool and hope the public can positively identify the suspect.

The suspect is described as a heavy-set white man, standing about 5’10” with dark receding hair.

Anybody with information is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.

Police hope the public can help identify this man. (Nanaimo RCMP)
