Pressure is mounting on the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council to speak publicly about the deaths of children in care.

Both 6-year old Dontay Lucas and 19 month old Sherry Charlie were in the care of NTC’s USMA child and family services department when they were placed in family care and killed.

BC Premier David Eby says the Ministry of Children and Families is investigating.

“For Dontay’s case we’ll ensure that British Columbians get the answers they need, and in particular that we have the information we need to prevent similar deaths from taking place,” he said.

BC’s representative for children and youth Jennifer Charlesworth has said she will come to Port Alberni to meet with the families as part of a full investigation.

On Monday, Eby replaced Mitzi Dean with Grace Lore as minister of child and family development, saying he needed a “reset at the ministry.”
