NANAIMO — The Clippers put together a fantastic start to their pre-Christmas three game road trip by putting up seven goals against the Express.

Nanaimo built up a 4-0 lead halfway through the game on goals in the first period by Luke Buss, Connor DeTurris and Erik Sollied and then another in the middle frame from Connor Haynes.

Sollied’s marker was a milestone, his first as a Nanaimo Clipper.

Coquitlam dug deep to get back in the game with three straight goals of their own.

James Shannon and Sebastian Bradshaw tallied before the second intermission and Sam Frandina added another early in the third.

Nanaimo took momentum back by adding another three goals in the last half of the third period.

Gabriel Westling, Cole Lonsdale and Haynes with his second of the game put the finishing touches on a Clippers 7-3 win, which was their fourth straight.

The final shots were 46-40 for the Express with Nanaimo going 0/3 on the power play and 4/4 killing penalties.

With the victory Nanaimo moves into a second place tie with the Alberni Valley Bullogs in the Coastal Division with 32 points.

The Clippers move on to face the Langley Rivermen on Friday Dec. 15 and then travel to Merritt on Dec. 16.
