NANAIMO — The Clippers got off to a great start with a 3-0 lead, but were pushed right to the final buzzer by the Coquitlam Express.

Luke Buss, Connor DeTurris and Willyam Gendron all scored in the first ten and a half minutes of the game.

A power play goal by Jackson Krill narrowed the gap to 3-1 as the teams went to the locker room after 20 minutes.

Krill scored again in the middle frame as the two teams exchanged goals for the rest of the contest.

Cole Lonsdale ensured Nanaimo had a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes when he cashed in on a breakaway coming out of the penalty box.

In the final period the back and forth continued as Jake Manfre cut into the lead, and Buss put Nanaimo up 5-3.

Luke Vardy brought the Express within a goal again and Isa Parekh was given credit for an empty net goal that finally clinched the game for the Clippers.

Nanaimo went 0/4 on the man advantage and 3/4 killing penalties.

Tyler Hodges got the win in net while both Express goalies Adam Manji and Eric Young split time in the crease.

The final shots were 30-28 in Nanaimo’s favour.

Buss had two assists to go along with his two goals and was selected the game’s first star.

The Clippers snapped a mini two game slump when they were outscored 11-2.

They will now look forward to home games against Powell River on Dec. 8 and Victoria on Dec. 9.
