Clippers drop 5-1 decision to Grizzlies

Dec 1, 2023 | 9:47 PM

NANAIMO — The Clippers offense failed to get going for the second game in a row.

After a 6-1 loss in Alberni Valley on Nov. 25 Nanaimo lost 5-1 to Victoria at home to start the month of December.

The game was scoreless until the second period when Charlie Gollub scored the first goal 50 seconds in.

Nanaimo tied the game briefly on a Luke Buss power play deflection mid way through the middle frame.

But just over a minute later the Grizzlies got the lead back thanks to a Chase Pirtle marker and from there they continued to roll.

Victoria was up 3-1 after 40 minutes and added two more goals in the third.

Nathan King had two of those goals and Malcolm Green capped off the scoring with a shorthanded tally.

Both teams went 1/3 on the power play while the Grizzlies outshot the Clippers 35-22.

Oliver Auyeung-Ashton took the win in goal over the Clippers Tyler Hodges.

The season series sits at 1-1 with another head to head matchup set for Dec. 9 at Frank Crane Arena.

Before then Nanaimo hosts Coquitlam on Dec. 3 and Powell River Dec. 8.
