NANAIMO — The NightOwls will fly into the 2024 campaign in the Okanagan for a battle of the birds.

Nanaimo’s third season of West Coast League baseball starts on Friday, May 31 with a three game series against the host Kelowna Falcons.

Nanaimo’s first home series will feature the Cowlitz Black Bears first ever visit to historic Serauxmen Stadium.

The Longview, Wa. based Black Bears will be in Nanaimo June 4-6 for a three game mid-week set.

There will be nine games involving the NightOwls island rival the Victoria Harbourcats, including two series which alternate cities.

When the teams clash June 11-13 there will be a June 12 matchup in Nanaimo.

Then the Harbourcats come to Serauxmen Stadium again from June 18-20.

The NightOwls have another split series with Victoria on the Canada Day long weekend starting in Nanaimo on June 29 and concluding with a Canada Day matinee on July 1 at Serauxmen Stadium.

The NightOwls are excited to start planning their game days and promotions now that the schedule is confirmed.

“Nanaimo fans are in for a great summer,” assistant general manager Tina Cornett said. “With a new ticket booth and more concession enhancements planned, special events every game day will make it about more than just the great baseball.”

The 2024 regular season will end with a home series versus Edmonton Aug. 5-7.

Playoffs are slated to run from Aug. 10-16.

There are three exhibition games on the NightOwls calendar, beginning with a preseason matchup against the Mid Island Pirates on May 30 and a midseason two game set with the Nanaimo Selects on July 16 and 18.

On the field the team has already confirmed the signing of Nanaimo Minor Baseball product original NightOwl Aaron Marsh for the 2024 campaign.

Nanaimo is expected to confirm the signings of pitchers Nathan Buchan and Jakob Fleury in the coming weeks as well.

The NightOwls posted a record of 26-28 last season, five games behind Kelowna for the WCL’s final North Division playoff spot.

Comprising of a 54 game collegiate-level summer league, the WCL features 16 teams predominately located throughout the Pacific Northest of the United States, as well as four teams in B.C. and the Alberta based Edmonton Riverhawks.
