Nighttime paving project to limit traffic along Nanaimo’s Bowen Rd.

Aug 4, 2023 | 9:17 AM

NANAIMO — Nighttime work along a main corridor in the city will impact traffic for the next couple of weeks.

Paving work will shut down traffic along Bowen Rd. from Northfield Rd. to Meredith Rd. beginning Tuesday, Aug. 8 and running through to Aug. 18

Crews will work between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday to Friday with the road closures in place each night based on the direction of travel being worked on.

“A signed detour will redirect traffic along Boxwood Rd. and Dufferin Cres. Please allow extra travel time and to avoid delays and disruptions, please use alternate routes when possible,” the City of Nanaimo noted.

No underground work is planned during this closure.

Milling the existing road surface, replacing it with a new hot mix asphalt and re-painting the road markings will take place.

The City said they selected overnight work as an option for this project to minimalize impacts to motorists, particularly commuters.

Surrounding residents should anticipate construction noise and some vibrations throughout.

Hub City Paving is conducting the work on behalf of the City at a cost of around $810,000.
