NANAIMO — It’s a blast from the past, returning for a short time.

Former retail giant Zellers is opening 21 new pop-up stores across Canada, including inside at the Hudson’s Bay store at Nanaimo’s Woodgrove Centre by August 11.

A Tuesday, July 18 statement from Hudson’s Bay noted the the ‘store-in-store’ concept introduced last summer will serve as strategic market tests to determine future steps.

Stores will also be opening in Langley, Penticton, Prince George, and Victoria, along with several locations in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Quebec.

The size of the stores existing within Hudson’s Bay locations will range from 8,000 to 10,000 square feet.

President of Hudson’s Bay Sophia Hwang-Judiesch said pop-up stores are a key ingredient to their expansion strategy, allowing them to explore new markets and gather customer insights.

“Our customers are very much part of our growth process, and together we will shape the future of Zellers, building a shopping experience that truly connects with communities across Canada.”

Zellers announced a return to B.C. in January with goals of opening 25 stores in the province.

The first four were in Kamloops and the Lower Mainland.
