NANAIMO – Housing market more active than predicted in March.

In March, 101 single-family homes sold in Nanaimo, up 50 per cent from February but down 36 per cent from the previous year.

Active listings of single-family homes on the Mid-Island rose 54 per cent year-over-year and 3 per cent from February.

The average price for a single-family home in Nanaimo was $763,134 in March, a 24 per cent drop from last year.

These are the benchmark numbers for Nanaimo in March 2023, as well as central and northern Vancouver Island:

  • Nanaimo’s benchmark price decreased to $748,700, a 15 per cent decrease from last year.
  • Campbell River’s benchmark price for single-family homes was $664,900, an 8 per cent decrease from the previous year.
  • Comox Valley’s benchmark price decreased by 5 per cent from last year to $795,800.
  • Cowichan Valley reported a benchmark price of $736,700, an decrease of 7 per cent compared to March 2022.
  • The Parksville-Qualicum area decreased 15 per cent from the last year to $831,500.
  • Port Alberni’s benchmark decreased to $514,500, a 17 per cent decrease from last year, the largest decrease on the island.
