Berkley, Ohana, Bingo and Firefly; four spectacular dogs looking for furever homes

NANAIMO — It’s a four-for-one special on this week’s edition of Pet Corner, featuring four of the most wonderful dogs the Nanaimo SPCA has to offer.

Berkley is a one-year-old male Labrador Retriever/Husky mix. He’s a people lover, very smart, and would do best in an adult-orientated home.

Ohana is an 11-month-old Border Collie/Husky mix and is looking for a home where she can be the energetic child she truly is.

Bingo is a one-year-old Bullmastiff/Beagle mix. She’s an exuberant lady looking for a dog-savvy human in a comfortable home where she can flop her ears down.

And of course, there’s Firefly, a four-year-old Boxer/Terrier who is sweet, energetic, and would be the perfect addition to any home.

The BC SPCA has seen a marked increase in the number of puppies surrendered into their care this year.

Over 350 puppies have come into their care province-wide so far this year, compared to 200 at the same time last year.

They’re saying this is a result of the demand for animal companions skyrocketing during the start of the pandemic, and now that it has subsided, breeders are no longer able to look after the number of dogs in their care.

The Nanaimo SPCA have reopened their doors to the public. You can still submit an application online and book an appointment if it’s a match, or stop by their Nanaimo location Tuesday-Sunday from noon until 4:00 p.m.
