NANAIMO — His performance earned not only an extended standing ovation but unanimous praise from the Canada’s Got Talent Judges.

Raymond Salgado, a singer from Lantzville, took the main event spot during the Tuesday, April 11 episode of the show, performing a cover of Bryan Adams’ song “Heaven”.

It was not Salgado’s first appearance on major network television, having performed on a past season of American Idol, where he admitted he wasn’t at his best.

“(The judges) didn’t think I was ready at the time. I was going through a lot of negativity and self-doubt and it really did affect me,” Salgado told judges prior to his performance.

But once the 24-year-old started, he barely got a single line of the song out before the crowd broke into applause.

Amid a standing ovation after his performance, judge Lilly Singh said this was Salgado’s time.

“I think it’s safe to say today you were ready, today is your day.”

All four judges voted to progress Salgado through to the next phase of the competition, with Howie Mandel suggesting he was “the best we’ve heard”.

“Rejection is devastating in life, but to be rejected on an international stage it can crush you and it can stop you. So to show up, makes you even stronger.”

Canada’s Got Talent airs Tuesday nights on CityTV.
