NANAIMO — A 39-year-old man suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries to his face after being shot in the downtown.

RCMP report the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 by the Coast Bastion Hotel on Bastion St.

Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien said in a release City of Nanaimo bylaw officers were first to find the man.

“[The officers] were on patrol when they were flagged down by the victim who was bleeding heavily from a facial injury. He told the officers that he had been shot.”

Paramedics took the man to hospital for treatment, where he remains.

Investigators closed down a section of Bastion St. for a short while as they worked.

As of Sunday afternoon, police had not located a suspect or the weapon involved and were canvassing the surrounding area looking for more information.

“If anyone has information on this incident which includes video, photos or dash cam footage of the area from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Saturday…please call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345,” O’Brien added.

It’s not clear what led up to the altercation.
