NANAIMO — The Clippers have had a difficult time beating Powell River at Frank Crane Arena.

Powell River took three of four matchups in Nanaimo this year including a 6-4 decision on March 10.

The game was scoreless through 20 minutes until Ethan Mistry staked Nanaimo to a 1-0 lead on a second period man advantage.

Then the Kings exploded for three goals in a five and a half minute span to go up 3-1 on markers by Alexi Van Houtte-Cachero, Cameron Symons and Jack Blanchett.

In the third period the Clippers turned the tables with power play goals by Jake Hewitt and Charles to tie it and Tardif added another goal to give Nanaimo the lead back.

A three goal run late in the game put Powell River on top to stay with tallies from Anthony Yu and Parker Lalonde with two, including an empty netter, to cap off the win.

Aidan Campbell took the loss in goal to Kyle Metson with Nanaimo outshooting Powell River 34-29.

The Clippers went 3/5 on the man advantage and 1/1 on the penalty kill.

Nanaimo did win the season series from the Kings with a 4-3 record.

The Clippers combined with a Surrey setback Cranbrook keeps Nanaimo with a five point lead over the Eagles for first place in the Coastal Division.
