CHILLIWACK — The Clippers got behind but saved their best for last in a 4-3 overtime victory in Chilliwack.

It was a scoreless game through the first period with Aidan Campbell playing very will in net as Nanaimo was outshot 13-3.

Campbell faced another 19 shots in the second period and allowed just one goal to Chiefs captain Abram Wiebe.

A controversial goal by Nico Grabas put Chilliwack up 2-0 early in the final frame.

The play was reviewed at length for goaltender interference but was allowed to stand up after the officials watched video of the play.

The goal seemed to light a fire under the Clippers who responded with three consecutive goals.

Ethan Mistry cashed in on a point shot, and then Kai Daniells scored back to back including one on the man advantage to give Nanaimo a short lived lead.

Mason Kesselring sniped a goal just a minute and two seconds later to knot the contest at 3-3.

The Clippers had a chance to win the game late in regulation with a four minute power play but failed to score.

However Jeremie Payant scored 1:23 into overtime to give Nanaimo the victory.

Chilliwack outshot Nanaimo 46-31 with Campbell getting the win over Chiefs netminder Austin McNicholas.

The Clippers went 1/5 on the power play and 2/2 killing penalties.

Payant’s tally improved Nanaimo’s overtime record to 6-1 on the season.

A busy weekend on the road continues with a visit to the Langley Rivermen on Saturday Feb. 25 at 7:15 p.m. and a trip to Coquitlam at 3 p.m. on Feb. 26.
