NANAIMO — Ethan Mistry scored the overtime game winner on a power play in the Clippers 3-2 victory against Vernon.

Nanaimo scored 36 seconds into the game on a deflection off Kai Daniells but it was goalie Aidan Campbell who was the story of the first 20 minutes.

Campbell made 19 saves to keep a pressing Vipers team at bay.

Willyam Gendron converted a Jeremie Payant pass early in the second frame to put the Clippers up by a pair but Vernon chipped away from there.

A goalmouth tip in by Lee Parks got the Vipers within one before the intermission break and a power play point shot from Connor Elliott evened the score early in the final period.

Mistry played hero with a top corner shot on a 4-3 man advantage in the overtime to snap a mini two game losing streak and give the Clippers their 31st win of the season.

Both goalies were tremendous with Campbell finishing with 30 saves and Vernon’s Roan Clarke ending the night with 31.

Nanaimo wraps up a busy weekend with a trip to Alberni Valley on Monday Feb. 20 at 2 p.m.
