SALMON ARM — The Clippers lost a rare road game 6-1 to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

Although Nanaimo had a good start they found themselves down by a goal seven minutes into the game on a rebound effort by Hayden Stavroff.

Jeremie Payant equalized on a power play for the Clippers on the same day it was announced he had committed to play NCAA Division 1 hockey at RPI next season.

Owen Beckner gave Salmon Arm the lead less than two minutes later and from there they never looked back.

The Silverbacks opened up a big lead in the second period on goals by Raoul Boilard, Ethan Ullrick and CJ Foley.

Foley’s marker was on a power play with five seconds left in the middle frame.

Brandon Santa Juana capped off the scoring early in the third period as the Clippers road record fell to 14-3.

Nanaimo was outshot 46-33 with Shane Shelest taking the loss and Matthew Tovell collecting the victory.

The Clippers finished 1/5 on the man advantage and 2/4 killing penalties.

Next up Nanaimo goes back home to host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Friday February 17.
