Payant hat trick leads Clippers to 7-4 win in Wenatchee

NANAIMO — The Clippers gave up two first period goals but responded with four goals in the middle frame and three more in the third to beat the Wenatchee Wild 7-4.

Nanaimo’s top players had big games led by Jeremie Payant with his first career hat trick and Jake Hewitt who had two goals and an assist.

Kai Daniells and Brody Waters finished with the other markers en route to Nanaimo’s third straight win,

Aidan Campbell got the win over the Wild’s goaltending tandem of Andy Vlaha and Owen Millward.

The Clippers were outshot 40-33 while going 1/2 on the power play and 4/5 killing penalties.

Nanaimo picked up their 30th win of the season to finish the night ten points ahead of the Surrey Eagles for first in the Coastal Division.

It was the Clippers first trip to Wenatchee since 2019 and their sixth this season versus an Interior opponent.

The victory upped Nanaimo’s record to 4-1-1 against Interior Division foes.

Nanaimo has a short turnaround with a game on Saturday Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. in Salmon Arm.
