Clippers take down Capitals 5-2

DUNCAN — The Clippers played a solid 60 minutes with a 5-2 road victory over Cowichan Valley.

The teams traded goals and the first period ended in a 2-2 tie.

Michael Craig and Jake Hewitt on the man advantage scored for the Clippers while Anton Yatshyshin and Luke Lavery countered for the Capitals.

Nanaimo locked the game down the rest of the way with Aidan Campbell providing 43 saves.

Willyam Gendron’s second period power play goal proved to be the game winner and the Clippers added two goals in a 44 second span in the final frame to put the game away.

Hewitt, with his second of the game, and Joel Plante provided the final two markers.

Brody Waters led all scorers with three assists, and Jake Hewitt had a pair of goals for Nanaimo.

Cowichan Valley outshot Nanaimo 45-43 in the game while the Clippers went 2/5 on the power play and 1/2 killing penalties.

Nanaimo now has a 6-0 record against the Capitals this season as the Clippers prepare for a difficult weekend of travel with games Feb. 10 in Wenatchee and Feb. 11 in Salmon Arm.
