Canadian government tells travellers in Mexico to shelter in place due to violence
OTTAWA — The federal government is advising Canadians in Mexico to limit their movements and shelter in place due to violence in the northwestern part of the country.
The violence is particularly in Culiacan, Mazatlan, Los Mochis and Guasave.
Ottawa says on Twitter that cars have been lit on fire, guns are being fired and there is a threat to essential infrastructure, including airports.
It says the Culiacan and Mazatlan airports are closed and all flights have been suspended at the Los Mochis airport until further notice.
