Montreal’s choice for new police chief admits to profiling, says will tackle problem
MONTREAL — The City of Montreal is recommending that Fady Dagher be appointed as the next chief of police.
Dagher is currently the chief of police in the Montreal suburb of Longueuil, Que., and is known for implementing a community-focused approach to policing in that city.
He is an immigrant from Côte d’Ivoire and a former deputy chief of the Montreal police service.
Dagher told Montreal’s public safety committee this morning that his mission is to build closer relationships between the police and the city’s diverse communities.
