Canada’s Crawford tops downhill training run at Lake Louise

LAKE LOUISE, Alta. — Toronto’s Jack Crawford posted the fastest time in Tuesday’s first training run for the opening World Cup downhill race of the season.

Crawford finished in a time of one minute 49.08 seconds, which was .04 seconds faster than Italy’s Mattia Casse.

Daniel Hemetsberger of Austria was third in 1:49.51. Broderick Thompson of Whistler, B.C., was 15th.

Crawford is coming off a successful season that saw him win bronze in alpine combined at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
