Nov 11, 2022 | 5:33 AM

NANAIMO — Mid-islanders attend their local cenotaphs and legions in strong numbers to pay tribute to military personnel who served and continue serving our country in order to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Several thousand people will converge in downtown Nanaimo at Dallas Square Cenotaph located at 85 Church St. on Friday, Nov 11.

The formal ceremony in downtown Nanaimo begins with a parade march shortly before 11 a.m. to the Cenotaph.

Members from the Royal Canadian Air Cadets 205 Collishaw Squadron have already started a 24-hour vigil around the Cenotaph, which they’ll complete prior to the official ceremony.

A military aircraft from CFB Comox will perform a fly-over, while dignitaries lay wreaths and the cannon will fire from nearby Pioneer Waterfront Plaza.

NanaimoNewsNOW will provide a Facebook live stream of the Remembrance Day ceremony commencing at 10:45 a.m. at the war memorial Cenotaph.
