Clippers suffer 6-2 loss to Cranbrook

Nov 7, 2022 | 9:10 PM

NANAIMO — The road weary Cranbrook Bucks beat the Clippers 6-2 in a make up game on Nov. 7.

Nanaimo got off to a good start with a Tyler Wishart goal two minutes into the game.

But the Bucks responded with goals by Ethan Sundar and Jarrod Smith to take a lead they would never give up.

Nick Peluso extended the lead to 3-1 in the second frame before Kai Daniells made it a one goal game.

The Clippers couldn’t build any offensive momentum after that however.

Cranbrook pushed through in the third getting a screened shot goal just over a minute in by Smith.

Rhys Bentham scored a controversial power play goal the fans and the Clippers bench thought didn’t cross the goal line to make it 5-2, and Julian Frias got credit for a banked in marker off a defender that put the visitors up 6-2.

Nanaimo outshot the Bucks 40-31 but Nathan Airey took the win over the Clippers Shane Shelest.

The Clippers were 0/2 on the man advantage and 3/5 killing penalties.

The game was a make up game from a postponement on Nov. 5.

It was Cranbrook’s fifth day on the road with multiple ferry crossings along the way but they turned in a solid 60 minute performance.

In the two game season seriess Nanaimo won 4-2 and lost 6-2.

The Clippers record sits at 12-3 with games upcoming against Cowichan at home on Nov. 9 and then a home and home series versus Alberni Valley starting in Nanaimo on Nov. 11.
