Attempted murder charge laid after Nanaimo Parkway shooting

NANAIMO — A charge of attempted murder has been laid against a man of no fixed address.

Robert Allen Estes, 48, faces the single count after he allegedly shot a 43-year-old man following a disagreement beside the Nanaimo Parkway on Monday, Aug. 1.

Estes has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2008, including multiple driving, firearm and drug offences in the Nanaimo and Duncan area.

He remains in custody and is due to appear in court on Aug. 11 in Nanaimo.

The man shot remains in hospital with what police have described as life-threatening injuries.

As part of the investigation, officers conducted multiple searches for a missing firearm which is believed to have been used in the incident.

Nanaimo RCMP reports the gun was located late Tuesday afternoon in an area off Northfield Rd., near Boxwood Rd.

Forensic examinations will take place on the weapon with the results forming part of an ongoing investigation.
