Woodgrove Centre’s $25,000 Giveaway A Success!

NANAIMO — On Saturday, July 16, Woodgrove Centre celebrated their “Scan, Shop & Play to Win!” event – a massive $25,000 giveaway that included gift cards and nine grand prizes to draw large crowds back into Nanaimo’s premier fashion-retail location.

Participants who scanned the advertised QR Code were entered to redeem a free $10 Gift Card as well as a chance to win 1 of nine grand prizes. Grand prize winners went home with Samsung 55-inch Smart TVs, Apple iPads, Bose Bluetooth Speakers, Beats Fit Pro Wireless Ear Buds, and a Nespresso Coffee Machine.

Customers could increase their chances of winning even more if they spent over $100 during the campaign to play to win a $10 Gift Card at advertised game stations located in the shopping centre.

The purpose of this ongoing event is to give back to the community and create a memorable shopping experience that’s fun and engaging.

Shoppers were thrilled and delighted at the chance of winning gift cards and fabulous prizes; crowds of spectators gathered around the Centre Court in great anticipation, counting down in unison with the Emcee before the announcement of the Lucky Draw at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.

Prize winners were visibly overwhelmed with joy – jumping up and down and trembling with excitement!

The event was held in conjunction with the Mom Market Vancouver Island which included everything from live entertainment, traditional Chinese Lion dancers, games, and much more. The giveaway and additional activities created an exciting buzz, and a noticeable increase in mall traffic and retailer exposure.

The result of the pandemic has transformed retail shopping behaviours and e-commerce has surged. Central Walk’s goal is to shift this dynamic and let their retail presence be known.

“We are still here, and we want people to come back and shop in the malls again,” Fang Sun, Central Walk’s Executive Director, said.

Woodgrove Centre was acquired by Central Walk, a global real estate investment firm, approximately two years ago.

Since the purchase of Woodgrove, Central Walk has acquired Mayfair Shopping Centre in Victoria and most recently Tsawwassen Mills.

Amongst all three shopping centres, a total value of $1 million in Gift Cards and prizes will be given away by the end of 2022.

“We will just keep giving the gift cards away until they are all gone,” Sun said.

Gift Card incentives will be hosted monthly to attract valued customers back to the shopping centres.
