VIDEO: Island Helmet Heads drop toys off for sick kids at Nanaimo hospital
NANAIMO — He turns heads with a unique helmet and looks tough cruising the highway on his motorcycle, but underneath Scott Ferron’s leather jacket is a heart of gold.
Ferron, a marine engineer with the Canadian Armed Forces based in Crofton, is the lead behind the Helmet Heads, an Island-wide initiative to give sick kids a toy during their stay in hospital.
A third donation of eight totes filled to capacity with toys was dropped off at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on Wednesday, June 1, following similar donations up and down the Island.
“I saw a need back in 2016 in Halifax where there weren’t very many toys being donated to sick kids in hospital. When I got posted here for the military, I just carried on and here on the west coast it’s just exploded.”
