Clippers lose first game in nearly two months 4-1 in Penticton

NANAIMO — The Clippers went down to defeat for the first time in the playoffs, losing 4-1 to the Penticton Vees in Game 1 of the Fred Page Cup.

Nanaimo had won 12 straight playoff contests, and 13 overall dating back to the regular season finale.

The Clippers also saw a 16 game post season winning streak come to end.

It was a streak dating back to March of 2020.

Penticton scored two late goals near the end of the first period to grab the advantage in Game 1.

Casey McDonald on a deflection and Ryan Hopkins on a power play point shot staked the home side to the lead.

Kai Daniells scored Nanaimo’s only goal eight seconds into the second period on a fortunate bounce.

Daniells now has six points in a personal five game point streak.

Luc Wilson put Penticton up 3-1 before the end of the second period and Bradley Nadeau capped the scoring with a third period marker.

The Vees outshot the Clippers 40-20 with Nanaimo going 0/2 on the man advantage and 3/4 killing penalties.

Penticton is now on a 13 game winning streak heading into Game 2 of the series.

Nanaimo will look to get back on even terms with the next game slated for Saturday May 14 at the South Okanagan Events Centre at 7 p.m..
