NANAIMO — Cooper Black’s 37 saves led the Clippers to a 1-0 win over the Chilliwack Chiefs.

For the second game in a row Keighan Gerrie was the offensive hero scoring with four and a half minutes left in the game to cap off a four game series sweep.

Black and Chilliwack goalie Grant Riley took turns making show stopping saves.

Riley was brilliant in the first period when Nanaimo outshot the Chiefs 11-6, then it was Black the rest of the way with Chilliwack outshooting the Clippers 31-9 over the final 40 minutes.

Each team had two power plays in the game but failed to score.

The Clippers never trailed in the series but the score was tied after the first and second periods in all four games.

Nanaimo did damage late in games outscoring the Chiefs 7-1 in third periods and overtime in the series.

The last time the Clippers made it to round three of the BCHL playoffs was 2016 when played in a three team round robin and failed to advance to the Fred Page Cup.

This year they will play the winner of the Alberni Valley versus Langley series likely beginning on April 29.
