Clippers win 6-3, take first two games in series versus Chiefs

NANAIMO — The Clippers best players led the way in a 6-3 win over Chilliwack.

Sean Donaldson had three goals and Cooper Black made 35 saves as Nanaimo took a 2-0 series lead with a pair of road victories.

Donaldson and AJ Lacroix (PP) traded first period goals and then Donaldson and Jeremie Payant staked the Clippers to a 3-1 in the middle frame.

A pair of goals by Cameron Johnson evened the scored before the second period came to an end.

After a disallowed goal by Payant, Donaldson completed his hat trick six minutes into the third.

Chilliwack pushed hard down the stretch and outshot Nanaimo 13-7 in the final period but Cooper Black was unbeatable.

A pair of empty netters by Jake Hewitt an Brody Waters capped the scoring.

The final shots were 38-25 for the Chiefs with Nanaimo going 0/2 on the man advantage and 4/5 killing penalties.

Donaldson, Johnson and Abram Wiebe were named the game’s three stars.

Nanaimo heads home for Games 3 and 4 at Frank Crane Arena on April 18 and 19.

The team has won all six of their playoff games to open the 2022 BCHL post season.
