NANAIMO — The Clippers used a third period push to beat the Surrey Eagles 3-1 in Game 3 of the BCHL playoffs.

Nanaimo snapped a 1-1 tie with goals by Jake Hewitt and Keighan Gerrie in the final frame to take a 3-0 stranglehold in their first round series.

The Clippers also outshot the Eagles 14-6 in the last 20 minutes of the game.

Brett Merner opened the scoring in the last minute of the first and Ante Zlomislic had Surrey’s only tally in the first minute of the middle stanza.

For the second time in three games Nanaimo did not surrender a power play, they failed to score however on their only man advantage of the night.

Cooper Black stopped 20 of 21 shots while the Clippers fired 33 at Eagles starter Eli Pulver.

The April 4 three stars were 1) Keighan Gerrie 2) Cooper Black 3) Ante Zlomislic

The Clippers have not lost in regulation time in Surrey all year, going 2-0-0-1 in the regular season and they added a Game 3 playoff victory.

Nanaimo is the first team in the BCHL to take a 3-0 lead in a series with a chance to complete the sweep in Game 4 on April 5.

The Clippers haven’t lost a playoff game since the first round of 2019 when they went down in five games to the Powell River Kings.
