Mar 26, 2022 | 7:15 PM

NANAIMO — Local Mounties have a man in custody they believe attempted to abduct a woman on her way home from work.

Bradley Dylan William Boscariol remains in police custody after being arrested via a multi-jurisdictional search within the 24 hours since the incident..

Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien said in an evening news release, officers used a description of the suspect’s vehicle to narrow their search, ultimately leading to an arrest around 6 p.m. on Friday, March 25 in conjunction with Ladysmith RCMP.

“Having an individual arrested for this incident and in police custody within 24 hours, must be reassuring to the citizens of Nanaimo. Our investigators would also like extend their sincerest appreciation to the general public for their cooperation and assistance with this file.”

Police say the suspect was arrested in the Mitsubishi Outlander the victim recalls seeing.

O’Brien praised the woman’s work to not only repel the attack but provide excellent information to police was a key reason why an arrest came so quickly.

Further searches of Boscariol’s residence as well as the vehicle involved were conducted Saturday, March 26 as investigators continue to build a case.

Boscariol will remain in police custody until at least Monday, March 28 when he next appears in court.

He faces charges of assault with a weapon and attempt to kidnap.

He has a minimal criminal history in British Columbia with one possession of a controlled substance charge in the Lower Mainland in 2015, along with a related breach of probation order.

Police are putting out a second call for information related to the incident, namely around a black SUV which slowly drove past the woman at the centre of this incident.

O’Brien said she recalled seeing three men inside.

“When last seen, this vehicle had turned right from Dickinson Rd. onto Schook Rd.”

Police are also trying to locate a brown, leather backpack which the woman lost during the attack.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP.
