City of Parksville resprouting tree rebate program

Mar 3, 2022 | 5:33 AM

PARKSVILLE — A financial incentive has been re-introduced in Parksville in an effort to expand the tree canopy.

A tree rebate program is available for a fourth year in Parksville, involving up to $50 toward the purchase of a tree with a mature height of at least 4.9 meters to be planted on private property.

Shrubs, bushes and other plants are not eligible for the rebate, which the City states is an ongoing program with no application deadline.

A total of 72 rebates have been claimed by Parksville residents and business owners since the program started in 2019, according to the City.

One rebate per calendar year per resident can be claimed, while proof of purchase and planting are required.

“Trees can reduce stress levels and fatigue, calm traffic; provide privacy, emphasize views or screen out unsightly views; enhance architecture; increase property values; moderate the environment; improve air quality; and reduce storm water runoff,” a City of Parksville news release stated.

An application can be obtained through the City of Parksville by clicking here.
