PARKSVILLE β€” A new addition to a popular destination playground is ready for children to burn off some energy.

The City of Parksville announced an upgraded section at the Lions Ventureland Playground opened on Monday, Jan. 31 following a safety inspection.

β€œThe new piece, called Harbour Town, is about 60 feet by 60 feet and includes six slides, a pirate ship, spinner and climbing structures. The playground piece is based on ramps and hexagonal platforms fostering inclusive and intergenerational play to be accessible to users of all abilities,” a City of Parksville news release stated.

The design is based on a ship and dock theme fitting the overall nautical theme of the playground.

The City received $315,000 through the BC Tourism Dependent Communities Fund to improve the facility.

Drastically overhauling the playground began when a splash park was completed in 2018, followed by new play equipment and a resurfaced Lions Ventureland Playground a year later with 5,500 recycled tires.

An outdoor gym is among other upgrades to the playground in recent years.
