NANAIMO — Gun shots were fired overnight outside a north Nanaimo apartment complex in what police called the targeted shooting of a parked vehicle.

Nearby residents called RCMP just around 12:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8 after multiple shots were heard, stemming from the 6000 block of Linley Valley Dr., just off Turner Rd. and Uplands Dr.

Cst. Gary O’Brien said officers attended quickly but were unable to locate the shooter.

“They found a parked vehicle that was not occupied with anyone that had several shots fired into it. They found evidence at the scene to support that.”

An area resident told NanaimoNewsNOW multiple shells were found at the scene. No-one was injured in the incident.

Neighbours told officers a newer model, black SUV was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

An investigation into the shooting continues, however police have little to go on.

“We need to look into this. We have to first determine motive and I think that speaks volumes.”

Anyone with further information on the incident, or the vehicle believed to be involved, contact Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250 754 2345.
