Nov 13, 2021 | 10:30 PM

NANAIMO — The Clippers got into a hole too deep to get out of in a 5-3 loss to the Langley Rivermen.

Langley broke a 1-1 tie midway through the second period by scoring three goals in a four minute span.

They held that lead until there was six minutes left in the game.

A short handed goal by Sean Donaldson and a power play marker from Max Itagaki got the Clippers to within a goal in the final minutes.

An empty netter sealed the game and vaulted the Rivermen back into first place in the Coastal Division.

Itagaki finished with two goals and Donaldson with a goal and an assist.

The two players had a combined 10 points in Nanaimo’s weekend games in Surrey and Langley.

The Clippers were outshot 34-32 and on special teams Nanaimo went 2/5 on the power play, 4/5 on the penalty kill and scored a shorthanded goal.

The Nov. 13 Three Stars were 1) Josh Wessels 2) Ryan Upson 3) Max Itagaki

The Clippers have three home games in four days coming up Nov. 17 against Alberni Valley, Nov. 19 versus Wenatchee and Nov. 20 is Retro Night with a visit from the Trail Smoke Eaters.
