Clippers never trail in 5-2 victory over Capitals

NANAIMO — The Clippers twice went up by two goals and ended their game in Duncan with a 5-2 win over the Capitals.

Jake Hewitt and Austin Spiridakis led the way with three points each.

Hewitt had two goals, Spiridakis, Sean Donaldson and Max Itagaki also scored for the Clippers.

Nanaimo had leads of 2-0 and 4-2 with the Capitals counting a two goal run in between to briefly tie the game at 2-2 in the second period.

The shots finished 47-25 for the Clippers with Cooper Black getting the victory over Cowichan netminder Evan May.

On the power play Nanaimo was 2/5 and 2/3 on the penalty kill.

Both of the Clippers special teams units are ranked fourth in the league.

Walker Erickson made his Clipper debut and had an assist in his first game with the club.

Nanaimo also used affiliate Miles Carson who will likely join the team on their mainland trip to Surrey and Langley Nov. 12 and 13.

The win moved the Clippers record to 8-5 and into a three way tie for second place in the Coastal Division.

Nanaimo trails first place Langley by one point for first place.
