NANAIMO — One man was injured and two people were arrested following a daytime shooting in Nanaimo.

RCMP said they were called to a home on Nicol St. near Needham St. after reports of gunshots directed at a derelict property

While nobody was found inside the home upon police arrival, Mounties said a man showed up at Nanaimo Hospital 20 minutes later with non-life threatening injuries believed to be from gunfire.

He was treated and released.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said police then pulled over a vehicle headed south on Nicol St. and arrested its two occupants, who he said could be connected to the targeted shooting.

A man and woman were later released, he said.

“This violence is related to the drug culture. No regard for anybody’s safety was shown here,” O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW.

The parties involved appear to be known to each other and the vehicle will be searched as part of their investigation, O’Brien said.
