The central Island region saw the biggest decrease, down 15 to 220. The north Island reduced by one (42 active) with the south Island down three (296 active).

Changes came as 84 new cases were added to Island Health’s totals. The central Island accounted for 31 of the new cases, with 45 to the south and eight in the north.

Since the start of the pandemic, Island Health has reported 8,487 total cases of COVID-19 in its borders.

There is a data discrepancy between Island Health and the province, based on the timing of daily COVID-19 results. NanaimoNewsNOW reports local verified data from Island Health.

According to the BC Centre for Disease Control, 31 people are hospitalized for COVID-19 symptoms on Vancouver Island including 17 in critical care.

Provincially, 340 people are admitted to hospital which is a steady rise on recent tallies. Of those in hospital, 146 are receiving intensive care and the vast majority of hospital and intensive care patients continue to be people who are unvaccinated.
