Police arrest one, looking for another after robbery at north Nanaimo grocery store

NANAIMO — Local Mounties are looking to identify one person involved in a shoplifting incident.

Police were called to the Save-On-Foods location near Woodgrove Centre in the 6900 block of the Island Hwy., around 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

Workers reported two people allegedly stole several items from the store and the suspects threatened them with a knife and a pipe when they tried to recover the items. The suspects, a man and a women, fled.

“Thanks to a quick, coordinated response by responding members, the female suspect was arrested within a few minutes of the call to 911,” Cst. Simon Gallimore said in a release.

The woman remains in police custody ahead of a court appearance while police look to identify her accomplice.

Police said the man is described as short, with red hair and was last seen riding a red mountain bike.

Nanaimo RCMP are requesting anyone with additional information to reach out to them by calling the detachment at 250 754 2345, quoting file number 2021-33903.
