Biography:
I grew up in Ladysmith and have been living in Nanaimo for almost 20 years. Prior to serving as Member of Parliament, I was a media producer and small business owner. I produced documentary films on environmental issues, international trade, food security, First Nations issues and cultural revitalization, and health care. My work raised public awareness and influenced government policy. I also coordinated employment skills training programs for youth at risk and people with diverse abilities.
Over more than two years as MP, I have been a strong advocate for a healthy environment and a more just society. I have been pushing the government for urgent action on the climate emergency, the housing affordability and homelessness crisis, and reconciliation. I have been on the forefront advocating for improvements to Canada’s social safety net and health care system, including universal pharmacare, dental care, and accessible mental health care.
