PARKSVILLE — Police have laid a murder charge in connection to an incident in Bowser in late August.

43-year-old Luciano Mariani was charged by police in the murder investigation of a Bowser woman. Mariani is of no fixed address but police say the victim was known to the suspect.

“The nature of their relationship will not be elaborated upon” Sgt. Chris Manseau said in a release. “The investigation still remains active, as [Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit] remains on scene determining what exactly occurred and led to this event.”

Oceanside RCMP, Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the BC Coroner’s Service are also participating into the investigation

Just after 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 31, Oceanside RCMP reported to the 5000 block of Thompson Clark Drive West in Bowser.

A woman was found at the scene with serious injuries, which directly led to her death.

Police said at the time it was believed to be an isolated incident with one person in custody.

According to the BC Court Services Online, Mariani has no prior criminal record and will appear in court in Nanaimo on Sept. 7.
