NYCFC defender Maxime Chanot fined for embellishment in Toronto FC game
TORONTO — New York City FC defender Maxime Chanot has been fined for “simulation/embellishment” in Saturday’s 2-2 tie with Toronto FC.
The incident occurred in the 24th minute when Chanot tangled with Toronto winger Yeferson Soteldo near the touchline. Both went down and, as they tried to untangle from each other, Chanot hung on to Soteldo. The Toronto winger made contact with Chanot’s arm, trying to free himself. That prompted the NYCFC player to pretend Soteldo had hit him in the face.
Soteldo was booked on the play. The MLS did not detail size of the Chanot fine.
The MLS disciplinary committee also found Los Angeles Galaxy forward Kevin Cabral guilty of simulation/embellishment in stoppage time of Sunday’s match against the Vancouver Whitecaps. Cabral was also fined an undisclosed amount.
