NANAIMO — An effort to reduce barriers to people getting a COVID-19 vaccination is considered successful by Island Health.

The health authority said 293 people walked in to the Beban Park community clinic on Wednesday, Aug. 4 to receive either a first or second COVID-19 vaccination dose.

The Beban Park clinic was the fifth busiest within Island Health on the day.

The Victoria Conference Centre clinic saw the most walk-ins with 891.

Of the roughly 7,600 people who received a dose of COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday in Island Health, 4,002 were walk-ins.

Island Health said there were high numbers of walk-ins by people under 30.

There were 33 new cases announced for the health authority on Friday, Aug. 6. The number of active cases across Island Health jumped from 108 to 139, with 14 new cases in the central Island area.

Cases in B.C. are rising especially fast in the Interior Health region, which currently has the most active cases.
