Lisa Fletcher named new Superintendent of Nanaimo RCMP

NANAIMO — The Harbour City’s police force officially has a new commanding officer.

After serving as acting detachment commander through the COVID-19 pandemic, Lisa Fletcher was recently promoted to Superintendent of the Nanaimo detachment by the RCMP.

Supt. Fletcher said her focus remains making Nanaimo a safe place to live and work and is committed to tackling social issues head on.

“As the RCMP continues to work on important national initiatives, I am also working to shift policing resources to address the rising and complex social and mental health matters our Members attend every day,” Fletcher said.

In her role as active commander, Fletcher undertook a review of staffing and priorities and will use those results to guide decisions moving forward.

“The outcome of the review was priority alignment, active pursuit of collaboration opportunities with other levels of governments and agencies, and implementation of innovative solutions geared to the changing policing needs of Nanaimo,” a release from the City of Nanaimo read.

Fletcher grew up in Ladysmith and served in Nanaimo beginning in 1992. She also took positions in Surrey, Chilliwack and Ottawa before returning to Nanaimo in 2017.

Her career with the RCMP has spanned 29 years.

She replaces Cameron Miller who left the Nanaimo detachment to take a position managing B.C. Highway Patrol on Vancouver Island.
