PORT ALBERNI – The Clippers battled to keep the careers of their graduating 2000 born players going as long as possible.

Jordan Naylor, Trevor LeDonne, Liam Ryan, Nolan Hutcheson, Thomas Maia and Baxter Anderson played their final games for Nanaimo in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Bulldogs.

Naylor, the longest serving Clipper, faced 50 shots and stopped two of three players in the shootout.

Team Captain Trevor LeDonne took the the final shootout attempt to try to extend the season even further but was thwarted by netminder Luke Pearson.

LeDonne finished the pod season as Nanaimo’s leading scorer with 17 points.

Hutcheson, Anderson and Ryan all had points in their final game with the team and Thomas Maia was a go to guy in both overtime and the shootout for the Clippers.

The game was spirited including a second period scrap between Nanaimo’s Brody Waters and the Bulldogs Finn Brown.

Waters landed the decisive blow in the altercation.

Hutcheson, Jack O’Brien, Keighan Gerrie, and Tristan Fraser scored for the Clippers who finished the Island Pod season in third place with a record of 8-11-0-1.

Plans for the 2021-22 BCHL campaign will be announced in the coming months with the uncertainty of COVID-19 clouding when the start date will be and if fans will be allowed in local arenas.
