First period barrage costs Clippers in 6-1 loss to Capitals

May 8, 2021 | 9:53 PM

PORT ALBERNI – The Clippers went down 5-0 after the first period and could never get on track in a 6-1 loss to Cowichan Valley.

Nanaimo’s only goal came on a power play deflection in the third period from Brody Waters.

The Clippers were outshot 42-40 in the contest with both Jordan Naylor and Ethan Neitsch giving up three goals.

Lucas Pfeil got the win for the Capitals in his final junior hockey game.

There was a nastiness to the game especially in the second period.

Nineteen different penalties were called including fighting majors assessed to the Clippers Daniel O’Neill and the Capitals Tanner Komzak.

Nanaimo watched Pfeil, Tyler Leibl and Jackson Alexeev skate off victorious in the finale of their junior careers and they’ll hope to see the same for their 2000 born players on May 11.

Jordan Naylor, Trevor LeDonne, Liam Ryan, Nolan Hutcheson, Baxter Anderson and Thomas Maia will play their last games in a Nanaimo uniform in a season ending contest versus Alberni Valley.
