Clippers troubles with Grizzlies continue in 6-1 loss

May 1, 2021 | 9:58 PM

PORT ALBERNI – The Clippers suffered their third 6-1 loss to the Grizzlies this season on May 1.

With one game remaining in the six game season series the Grizzlies have taken four of the five matchups.

Thomas Maia scored the shutout breaking goal in the third period with the Clippers already down 5-0.

Maia has been the hottest Nanaimo player lately with a three game point streak including three goals and two assists.

Victoria led 1-0 after one and 3-0 after two periods.

The Grizzlies outshot the Clippers 47-31 with Carter Woodside getting the victory over Clipper rookie Ethan Neitsch.

Tempers flared at the end of the game with several misconducts, the ejection of Clipper associate coach Colin Birkas and fight majors assessed to Nanaimo’s Jaeger Murdock and Brendan Carlson.

Carlson was also given a double game misconduct which will leave Nanaimo’s already short line up even more depleted for the next game.

The Clippers are 6-9 with five games left in the season and they’ll battle the Alberni Valley Bulldogs next on Monday May 3.
