Three late goals sink Clippers in 4-3 loss to Bulldogs

Apr 30, 2021 | 9:53 PM

NANAIMO – Three goals against in a span of 3:26 was the difference in the Clippers 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

Goals by Luke Lavery in the first, Brody Waters in the second period and Nolan Hutcheson on a power play seven minutes into the final frame paced the Clippers to a 3-1 lead.

But the Bulldogs mounted a charge the Clippers just couldn’t stop.

A pair of goals by Chase Klassen and another by Finn Brown midway through the third turned the game around and gave Alberni their fourth win in five tries versus Nanaimo this year.

The Clippers outshot the Bulldogs 49-37 but second star Luke Pearson took the win over Nanaimo netminder Jordan Naylor.

With six games games left in the pod season the Clippers are 6-8. They sit ten points back of first place Victoria and are eight points in arrears of the second place Bulldogs.

Nanaimo wraps up the week with a 7 p.m. game against the Grizzlies on May 1 and another contest with Alberni is on the horizon for Monday May 3.
