PORT ALBERNI – The Clippers and Grizzlies looked every bit like the top two teams in the Island Pod in their April 17 game.

Victoria won 4-2 breaking a 2-2 tie after 40 minutes.

Two third period goals by Andrew Amousse, including an empty netter, proved to be the difference.

Nanaimo had tallies from rookie Luke Lavery in the first period and Nolan Hutcheson in the second.

The Clippers led 2-1 until midway through the middle frame before a key four minute kneeing call put the Grizzlies on an extended power play.

The BCHL’s leading goal scorer Ellis Rickwood scored on that power play and the Clippers failed to beat Carter Woodside the rest of the day.

Both Woodside and Clipper goalie Jordan Naylor were busy with the shots finishing 46-42 for the Grizzlies.

Special teams proved to be a key factor with Victoria going 2/3 on the power play while Nanaimo ended up 0/3.

The Clippers now trail 2-1 in the six game season series with another head to head game slated for April 24.

Before then Nanaimo will play Alberni Valley April 18 and 20 and Cowichan Valley on April 21.
