NANAIMO — Two young boys were taken to hospital following an accident involving a quad bike south of Nanaimo.

Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly before 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 15 just outside Quam Qwum Stuwixwulh Community School on traditional Snuneymuxw First Nation territory in the Cedar area.

Percy Tipping, chief of the North Cedar Fire Department, said they arrived on scene to find the quad on its side out front the school near the parking lot on Stuywut St.

“There was a construction worker with the two young boys then our crew broke up into triage two different patients, do their assessments,” Tipping said.

Both were wearing helmets according to those on scene and were conscious.

Tipping estimated the boys were roughly 11 or 12 years old.

B.C. Air Ambulance landed at a nearby field and airlifted one patient to hospital with unknown injuries while another was driven by ground ambulance to NRGH.

A Snuneymuxw First Nation employee confirmed to NanaimoNewsNOW they will provide investigators security camera footage from the school, although it’s unclear whether it will show the incident.
